On Wednesday Moama Bowling Club hosted the $40,000 men’s prestige pairs event, with Garry Ball and Tom Ristic taking out top honours.
The pair were awarded first prize of $12,000 on 14 points (seven wins) and 69 shots up.
Ball was last year’s runner-up and is Victoria’s highest-ranked player.
They finished three shots clear of against Michael Vesikko (Altona) and Jason Saunders (Melbourne), but any number of teams could have won in what turned out to be a tight race to the finish.
Eleven international representatives joined Australia’s top bowlers to compete for the prize — Matthew Flapper and Peter Loe finished third, followed by Craig Hodges and Mick O’Neill, while Australia’s selected pair of Aaron Wilson and Brett Wilkie, to play in the world championships next month, finished fifth.
The Murray Steamers pairing of Michael Walker (Moama) and Ryan Bester (Canada) finished eighth overall.
It was another successful event with 46 teams fighting it out across eight games over the three days in what was one of the strongest men’s event fields in recent history.
