Les is on target at Mathoura Gun Club

The October North East zone tower shoot at Mathoura Gun Club was held in good weather conditions for the competitors, being mild and calm for the entire shoot.

Plenty of shooters came from a very wide area, including Kyneton, Euroa, Castlemaine, Numurkah/Shepparton, Kerang, Echuca, Deniliquin, Cohuna, and of course Mathoura.

It was just as well shooters were available for an early start as it looked like being a fairly late finish, but the day ran smoothly to finish in excellent time.

A 15-target double barrel trap cash divide was the opening event, and even with a number of good shooters in attendance, just one competitor, Kerang member Les Comensoli, was able to shoot the only winning score of 14/15. He collected all the first place cash for his effort.

April Thompson and Nick Dean (Echuca), Scott Eddy and Tom McCluskey both Mathoura members, Laurie Fitzpatrick (Euroa), and Michael Rowan (Deniliquin), all shot just one target less, and their 13/15 score earned them all a share of the second place cash.

Event two, a 10-target single barrel tower cash divide, again had not one possible shot. A 9/10 score was the winning number for Peter Finn (Shepparton/Numurkah), Laurie Fitzpatrick, Harry O’Connor (Mathoura), and Nick Dean, who all collected a share of the total cash prize.

Event three, the main event, was a 25 target Victorian North East Zone night single barrel tower championship.

Castlemaine’s Ricky McKinnon took the honors with an unmatched 23/25 score, and collected the overall winners sash, and first place in A/AA grade trophy from good shooting under lights.

B grade went to Kerang’s Geoff Hogan, having survived a brief shoot off, and ending with a winning score of 23/28. Mathoura’s own Thomas McCluskey shot a 20/25, and earned first place in C grade trophy.

A very competitive shoot enjoyed by everyone having ran smoothly all evening and was well attended, with Donna McCluskey keeping everyone well fed and watered.
