Bowlers from Moama RSL and Echuca RSL played in the annual RSL Lawn Bowling Duke of Edinburgh Trophy at the weekend.

BOWLERS from Moama RSL and Echuca RSL played in the annual RSL Lawn Bowling Duke of Edinburgh Trophy at the weekend.

The event has seen more than 1600 bowlers from 92 clubs compete.

This year’s trophy was held at Yarrawonga-Mulwala and had 28 clubs competing.

Five games of 12 ends were played throughout the two days with two teams made up of players from Echuca-Moama.

Team white playing at Mulwala RSL Club included: B. Brennan, S. Barker, N. Milgate, R. Brereton, J. Kirkpatrick, P. Moon, M. Leibhardt, B. Brereton, L. Saunderson, major KC. Jones, G. Doorwood, N. Hodge, R. Allen, W. Whitney, G. Iredel, G. Van Summaren and M. Spiers.

On team blue playing at Yarrawonga Gold Club were: T. Nagorcka, N. Bamford, P. Walton, G. Johnson, T. Robertson, A. Jones, N. White, J. Hollowood, G. Thornley, N. Dixon, T. Hawley, B. Franklin, K. Robertson, P. Madgwick, B. Downer, K. Sipthorp and major J. Munro.

Three games were played on Saturday in perfect weather conditions, however Sunday proved difficult bowling in showery, windy weather.

Two games were completed by lunch time on Sunday before the results were announced for the blue team playing at Yarrawonga.

The home side came second behind a local team with the full results of the shield trophy to be advised at a later date.

Thanks was extended to the host clubs for a great weekend of bowling.

Ladies bowls

SOCIAL bowls were played on Tuesday in warm and sunny conditions.

Vouchers were generously donated by Moama Village Pharmacy.

The winners were Virginia Noar and Carol Guille.

The annual general meeting for the ladies bowls will be held next Tuesday at 1.30pm following social bowls.
