ECHUCA and District Netball Association (EDNA) has two of the regions best coaches in its midsts.
Betty McCoomb and Rose Buckley were named as part of the coaching line up for this year’s North Central teams which will compete at the Netball Victoria State Titles at Eagle Stadium in Werribee from October 7.
Buckley has been appointed as assistant coach of the 17-and-under squad having been involved with North Central for five consecutive years, while McCoomb was named as coach of the 15-and-under side for a sixth year.
McCoomb started her involvement with North Central in 2011 as team manager and assistant coach of the 15-and-under side.
She was appointed coach in 2012 and was chosen for the role every year since.
‘‘It’s a bit of a surprise considering there are a lot of great coaches,’’ McCoomb said.
‘‘I didn’t expect the opportunity to do it in the first place, let alone for so many years.’’
McCoomb’s ability to turn a group of players into a team has shown in her time coaching, having won the title with the 15-and-under team in 2013.
She looked forward to working with assistant coach Vanessa Saunders and team manager Jill Humphrey for the first time.
‘‘It’s a chance for girls to play at a high level and get seen by a lot of different people within Netball Victoria,’’ McCoomb said.
‘‘We’ve been fortunate to have a large number of EDNA players represent the region over the years, especially through the 15s.
‘‘I’ve coached all ages from grade six and above, but I’m best suited to the under 15 age group.’’
The first tryout takes place on the Queen’s Birthday Monday (June 12) and the two following Mondays at Golden City Bendigo.
Fifteen players would then be selected in the initial squad before a final team of 10 was decided.
