FORMER Echuca horseman John Caldow could have a successful but brief homecoming on a huge night of trots at the Frank Ryan Raceway tonight.
A marathon 10-event card, which kicks off at 5.22pm and finishes at 10pm, has been set down for decision.
Caldow will drive Millwood Brandy in the opening event for C1 Only class pacers for his trainer wife, Maree, and from a plum barrier two draw off the front row should prove hard to beat.
Main dangers could be the Brent Lilley trained Island Five Star, which has drawn barrier four and the David Aiken trained and Lisa Bartley driven Hot To Rock – despite both coming from a second row draw.
District hopes in the race in Artikulate Miss and Dallas Nikolay are also each-way chances but have to overcome second row draws.
Caldow will also drive Maggies Grin, which is attempting a hat-trick of wins when she steps out in the sixth event for C3-4 class pacers.
But the Max Govers’ trained mare has drawn the outside of the front row and with some very smart horses including Alpe De Huez, Hoagy Bromac and Im The Boss drawn inside her she is going to need some luck.
Stanhope-trained Another Colony looks a good each-way bet in the first leg of the quadrella after drawing barrier two in a strong field.
Echuca horseman Wayne Lear may be the trainer to get punters home on a winning note in the final event with the consistent Crystal Colony, which has dawn barrier five.
Barmah-trained Ona Safari looks one of his main dangers.
