STUDENTS of Goju-Ryu Australia took part in an interclub tournament on May 13 at the Scout Hall in Moama.

Around 12 competitors played off in an elimination sparring contest, heavily protected in gear, with referees determining the best technique shown by students.

Students then participated in a Kata routine against an opponent in front of a judging panel watching for posture, speed and strength.

Sensei Lance Carrington said the emphasis was on skill, control and technique shown by the students.

‘‘We were very impressed by the skill level shown by all participants especially in the sparring,’’ Carrington said.

Echuca Workers and Services Club sponsored the event which was enjoyed by all students and parents.
