ON SUNDAY, Echuca United football team headed to Moama to play Cobram in the first elimination final.

The boys started well with the first goal to Corey Garner, but to Cobram’s credit they hit back straight away in what was a very tight first quarter. We went to quarter time a goal up but Cobram improved after the break and started to get on top over the next two quarters. They were really serving it up to our boys, who were struggling to keep up with them.

Right on three-quarter time, Eli Spiers took the ball out of the ruck and kicked a much needed goal. The boys were four points down and needed a big last quarter. Garner took a strong contested mark about 20 metres out directly in front and kicked a goal to put the boys back in front.

With 10 minutes to go, Alexander Graham started getting plenty of run out on the wing and was driving the ball deep forward.

The last two minutes was played in Cobram’s forward line, but Jared Taylor was rock solid at full back with a few good grabs late in the game to help stop Cobram getting back in front. Levi Dixon played a solid game all day, whether in the ruck or helping down back, and Garner with three goals was clearly best on ground.

To the boys’ credit they held on to win by one point and will play Deniliquin Rams on Sunday at Numurkah.
