A Open winners Stanley Brentnall and Josh Bavich

LOCKINGTON Bamawm United Lawn Tennis Club held its annual tennis tournament on Sunday, November 26.

After a rain interrupted morning the tennis eventually got under way in summer conditions.

The young C graders played some tight games with Echuca Lawn players Maisy Byrne and Liam Gronow winning the day with locals James Brentnall and Charlie Byrne only three games short.

B grade was popular with 12 pairs competing in two pools of six with a lot of tennis played at a high standard and long rallies.

Echuca South’s Jace Tonkin and Baxter Anderson finishing on top by a single game from Blake Roulston and Reed Hocking from Rochester in Pool 1, while it was Lockington’s Milly Haines and Chelsea Jones winning by two games from Edward Brentnall and Annie Byrne in Pool 2.

The final play off for the B grade trophy was won by Jace and Baxter in a great game against Milly and Chelsea.

A grade was dominated by Rochester pairs. Lewis Cleary and Sam Ryan were the clear winners on the day not dropping a set.

They played some great tennis to defeat runners-up Alex Parker and Will Leahy.

A open saw six pairs showing their style and what our future tennis players look like.

There was some very classy, fast and high standard of tennis played by these guys.

Rich River’s Josh Bavich and Lockington’s Stanley Brentnall paired together to take out the open trophy.

Young guns Mitch Dodos from Kyabram and Silas Kingma from Gunbower paired together and gave good competition but Josh and Stanley shone through to win in straight sets.

It was a successful day with 56 children taking part in the tournament showing great sportsmanship and showcasing their tennis skills.

Many thanks to our major sponsors in Parmalat, Pentreaths Food works and Lockington’s newest business in Ciurleos ice cream and waffle house.
