‘‘WE want players.’’
It’s a simple message from Echuca United Junior Football Club.
If kids want to play footy, United wants them.
Wanting to give as many players the opportunity to play as possible, Echuca United sought out the opportunity to field two sides — one in the Goulburn Campaspe Football League, as well as one in the Murray Football League.
Now with both leagues giving the club approval, Echuca United will field two sides in under 14’s football — but they need a bit of help.
The club has far too many players for just the one side, but are just short of players for the second side.
Garet Stobaus said any player would be welcome.
‘‘We’re really excited to field a second team,’’ Stobaus said.
‘‘But ideally we would have another ten kids. Even four or five would be great. What we want is the opportunity for as many people to be playing football on the weekend.
‘‘No one wants to be sitting out on a Saturday. We want everyone part of the club and we want them all out on the field.’’
The club has previously sent players who missed weekly due to numbers to Leitchville-Gunbower.
Unfortunately for United, a number of those players stayed.
‘‘We are glad they are playing football somewhere, but we ideally would love them at United. We want our club to be as strong as possible, with as many people playing as possible.’’
GCJFL games are played on Friday nights or Sunday’s, leaving Saturday’s open to families.
The league also holds a number of local clubs, which minimises travel.
